Quick Chicken Gyros

Fast and flavourful Greek-style chicken gyros ready in 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 chicken breasts (or thighs), sliced thin
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (or 1 grated clove)
  • ½ lemon, juiced
  • salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2-3 pitta or flatbreads
  • Greek yogurt or tzatziki
  • tomato, sliced
  • cucumber, sliced
  • red onion, sliced
  • fries (optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix chicken with olive oil, paprika, oregano, cumin, garlic powder, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Marinate for at least 5 minutes.
  2. Heat a frying pan over high heat. Fry chicken for 6-8 minutes until golden with some charring. Cook in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  3. Warm the pitta breads in a pan, toaster, or over a gas flame.
  4. Spread yogurt or tzatziki on the bread, add chicken, top with tomato, cucumber and red onion. Wrap and serve.

Notes & Tips

  • Add a splash of white wine vinegar at the end for authentic gyro shop flavour
  • If no tzatziki, mix yogurt with minced garlic and lemon juice
  • Sprinkle extra oregano on top just before serving
