Quick Chicken Gyros
Fast and flavourful Greek-style chicken gyros ready in 20 minutes
Ingredients
- 2 chicken breasts (or thighs), sliced thin
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp oregano
- ½ tsp cumin
- ½ tsp garlic powder (or 1 grated clove)
- ½ lemon, juiced
- salt and black pepper to taste
- 2-3 pitta or flatbreads
- Greek yogurt or tzatziki
- tomato, sliced
- cucumber, sliced
- red onion, sliced
- fries (optional)
Instructions
- Mix chicken with olive oil, paprika, oregano, cumin, garlic powder, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Marinate for at least 5 minutes.
- Heat a frying pan over high heat. Fry chicken for 6-8 minutes until golden with some charring. Cook in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Warm the pitta breads in a pan, toaster, or over a gas flame.
- Spread yogurt or tzatziki on the bread, add chicken, top with tomato, cucumber and red onion. Wrap and serve.
Notes & Tips
- Add a splash of white wine vinegar at the end for authentic gyro shop flavour
- If no tzatziki, mix yogurt with minced garlic and lemon juice
- Sprinkle extra oregano on top just before serving
